MPL Updates Media Stakeholders on Port Relocation Project
Media stakeholders briefed on project progress and plans for the transition to Thilafushi
Malé, 1 August 2026 – Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) held a meeting with media stakeholders to provide updates on the ongoing project to relocate the Malé Commercial Harbour to Thilafushi. The purpose of this meeting was to gather feedback from the medias and to keep the relevant parties informed about the progress of the relocation project.
During the meeting, MPL also shared information regarding the preparation for interim port operations at Thilafushi. Operations of the Interim port is expected to commence around October 2026 to support the handling of increased import volumes during peak tourism and trade season.
The meeting provided an opportunity for media representatives to raise questions and gain better understanding of the relocation project and its progress.
