MPL Signs MoU with MNU to Introduce Bachelor’s Degree in Port Management
Partnership Expands Higher Education Pathways for MPL Employees
Malé, 12 November 2025 - Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maldives National University (MNU) to expand degree level education opportunities for its employees.
The main objective of this initiative is to provide MPL staff with the opportunity to earn their first degree in Port Management by upgrading the existing associate degree in Port Management to a Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree program. Through this upgrade, employees are able to complete the third year of the program and obtain a full bachelor’s degree.
Currently, the Port Training Center is registered as an institute under higher education and training categories and is permitted to conduct programs only up to Level 6. Delivering the Level 6 component through another institution would require additional modules, resulting in more time and added cost.
To address this, MPL is collaborating with MNU to deliver the program, with the course accreditation authority transferring to the university. Through this partnership, MPL employees will be able to pursue their bachelor's degree directly through MNU and participate in its official graduation ceremonies.
This collaboration marks a significant step in enhancing educational and professional development opportunities for MPL employees, reflecting MPL’s continued commitment to capacity-building within the port sector.
