
August Cargo Volume Rises by 5% Compared to July
5% rise compared to 6,320 TEUs cleared in July
Malé, 22 September 2025 - Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) recorded a notable increase in cargo clearance during August 2025, handling a total of 6,663 TEUs, a 5% rise compared to 6,320 TEUs cleared in July.
The cleared cargo comprised 2,607 20 foot containers and 2,028 40 foot containers, serviced through 20 conventional vessels and 14 container ships operating across MPL’s network.
Among the perishable goods handled, eggs remained the most imported item, with 71,037 cases cleared, followed by 55,581 baskets of onions, 31,966 baskets of carrots, 24,225 baskets of garlic, and 16,918 baskets of tomatoes. Other key perishables included pineapples, cabbages, bananas, sweet potatoes, and barabo.
This steady increase reflects the efficiency and reliability of MPL’s port operations, which continue to play a vital role in ensuring the smooth flow of essential goods throughout the Maldives.
