Economic Minister Inaugurates Expansion of Services at Kulhudhuffushi Port

New facilities strengthen northern trade and development

Kulhudhuffushi, 26 August 2025 - In a ceremony held today, attended by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed inaugurated the expansion of services at Kulhudhuffushi Port. The new facilities, launched as part of the key services agreed under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry and Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) on 19 May 2025, are designed to enhance trade capacity and provide greater support for communities and businesses in the northern region.

The expansion includes the establishment of a bonded zone for food staples, a bonded warehouse to support northern tourist facilities, a dedicated jetty for inter-island goods distribution, and a designated storage area for construction materials. Together, these facilities will ensure smoother logistics, improved availability of essential goods, and reliable supply chains for both residents and businesses.

This milestone positions Kulhudhuffushi City as a key service hub in the Northern Development Zone, playing an essential role in strengthening food security, supporting tourism, and facilitating sustainable economic growth. It also reflects the government’s strong commitment to decentralization and ensuring reliable services across the Maldives.
