MoU Signed to Develop a Yacht Marina in Uligan

Uligan (1 August) - Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) and the HA. Uligan Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a yacht marina in HA. Uligan. CEO, Mohammed Wajeeh Ibrahim, and the President of the Uligan Council, Ahmed Muaz Mohamed, signed the agreement in a ceremony held at Uligan Council. The Uligan Marina project is a planned development featuring a marina near the northern tip of the Maldives, strategically located near one of the busiest maritime routes for leisure travelers and world trade. This project aims to cater to seafaring yachts and leisure crafts with amenities such as state-of-the-art vessel docking and berthing facilities, serving as an entry gateway to the Maldives. CEO Wajeeh stated that this project will attract more yachts to Uligan and provide adequate services for vessels docking there. He also highlighted the current government's vision of developing the maritime industry as one of the key drivers of the Maldivian economy. "Even without proper facilities, many yachts dock in Uligan each year. With adequate facilities in place, even more yachts will arrive, leading to an economic boost for the northern region and creating much-needed job opportunities," said CEO Wajeeh. President of the Uligan Council, Muaz, expressed that the development of a yacht marina has always been a "lifelong dream" for the residents of Uligan. "As far as we can remember, yachts have always docked in Uligan. However, for various reasons, we have not been able to establish proper facilities to provide services for these yachts. The people of Uligan have waited a very long time to see a yacht marina on the island. We are very hopeful that this dream will soon become a reality," said Muaz.
