MPL Conduct Practical Training on Hazard Identification and OHS Risk management

Hands on safety exercises to strengthen workplace risk awareness

Male’, 23 May 2025 – Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) conducted practical training on workplace safety and operational excellence on hazard identification and occupational health and safety (OHS) risk management.

The session held at Male’ Commercial Harbor marked the practical phase of a broader training initiatives following a series of induction programs conducted from 19th to 22nd May 2025. Each Operational shift team participated in a tailored briefing during the induction period, designed to strengthen awareness of potential hazards and reinforce MPL’s safety first culture.

During the practical sessions, operational staff were engaged in real time scenarios across key areas of the port. Guided by MPL’s Health and Safety Department, participants were tasked with identifying visible and potential hazards in their respective work zones. They also evaluated risk levels and discussed appropriate mitigation measures in line with MPL’s risk management system.

The exercise is aimed at empowering employees with the tools and knowledge needed to proactively manage risks, reduce incidents, and ensure a safe working environment for all. The Health and Safety department emphasized the importance of continuous risk assessment and frontline accountability in high risk operational environments like cargo handling and vessel operations.

Officials highlighted that regular training and refresher programs form a critical part of MPL’s health and safety framework. By combining classroom instruction with practical, side specified exercises, the company seeks to build a culture of vigilance and shared responsibility.
