MPL Expands Malé North Harbor to Local Fish Market Area

MPL Takes Over Operations up to Local Fish Market

Malé, 31 July 2025 – Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has officially expanded the Malé North Harbor area up to the Local Fish Market, following an agreement with the Ministry of Transport.

Effective 1 September 2025, services in the expanded area will be provided in accordance with the official policies and tariffs of Malé North Harbor. As of 11 August, all operational responsibilities from the MPL zone to the breakwater near the Fish Market have been transferred to MPL.

With this change, services at North Harbor will be available only to vessels registered under the harbor. Registration is now open via the Harbor software portal, where vessels can also request services.

The expansion increases North Harbor’s total capacity to 74 vessels, including 54 spaces for cargo and passenger vessels, 20 for fishing vessels, and an additional waiting area that can accommodate 25 vessels.

MPL currently manages berth allocations on a queue system and provides water and electricity services. Plans are also underway to extend utility access and introduce fuel services to support growing demand in the expanded harbor area.
