MPL Holds Risk Champions Awareness & Appointment Ceremony 2025

Appointment of Risk Champions from Every Department within the Company

Malé, December 22, 2025 – Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has officially held the "Risk Champions Awareness & Appointment Ceremony 2025," marking a significant step in the company’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its organizational risk management framework.

The ceremony was organized to formally appoint dedicated "Risk Champions" from every department within the company. These individuals have been selected to lead risk-related initiatives and foster a culture of vigilance and proactive risk mitigation across all levels of the organization.

The event featured a specialized awareness session conducted by the Assistant Auditor General, Mr. Ibrahim Fazeel. The session provided the newly appointed champions with critical insights into modern risk management practices and their roles in identifying and managing departmental risks. Following the session, Mr. Fazeel presented official badges and certificates to the appointees.

Speaking at the ceremony, MPL’s Chief Risk Officer (CRO), Ibrahim Rasheed, highlighted the inherent challenges of the maritime sector. He emphasized that port operations represent one of the highest-risk work environments, requiring constant attention to safety and procedural protocols.

The CRO specifically noted that risks are further compounded at the Malé Commercial Harbour due to severe congestion and limited space. He stressed that these logistical constraints necessitate extra due care and heightened precautions during daily operations to ensure the safety of both personnel and cargo.

The appointment of Risk Champions is part of a broader strategic initiative by MPL to build a robust internal risk framework. By designating a focal point in each department, the company aims to ensure that risk assessment becomes an integral part of its operational DNA, safeguarding its assets and maintaining the efficiency of the Maldives’ primary trade gateway.
