Three Day Maritime Safety and Security Training Kicks Off at MPL

Sessions aim to strengthen operational preparedness and maritime risk awareness

Male’, 7 April 2025 – A three day Maritime Safety and Security training program commenced today at Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), facilitated by Dr. Azmath Jaleel, lecturer at the International Ocean Institute. The training is part of MPL’s ongoing commitment to strengthening operational resilience, awareness, and compliance with global maritime safety standards.

The program brings together staff from key operational and safety units, providing them with critical insights into emerging security threats, response protocols, and international maritime safety standards.

The opening day of the session focused on foundational principles of maritime law, port and vessel security framework, and current global trends in maritime threats. Through interactive discussions and case-based learning, participants examined real world scenarios to better understand risk assessment, incident response planning, and multi-agency coordination during emergencies.

Over the next two days, the training will focus on areas such as ISPS Code implementation, port access control, surveillance systems, cyber threats, and environmental hazard management. Participants will also explore strategies to build a safe conscious workplace culture withing the departments.
